Gay Essential Films To Watch, Dream Boy

In Dream Boy, when 15 year-old Nathan Davies (Stephan Bender) moves to a small Southern town with his parents he becomes friends with the boy next door, Roy (Maximillian Roeg). Nathan and Roy help each other with their school work.

The boy’s relationship progresses, and over time they become intimate. Roy becomes suspicious and angry overtime wanting to know who taught Nathan to have sex in a particular way.

At night, when Nathan has prepared to sleep; he hears his father sneaking into his room and runs outside. From then on he comes home only for meals and sleeps outside in the woods. It is apparent that his father has touched him, in the past, in an inappropriate manner.

Roy offers him a place to sleep in his family’s barn. The two boys go camping with friends, Burke (Randy Wayne) and Randy (Owen Beckman), Nathan and Roy share intimate moments in their tent. Later whilst hiking in the woods, they find an old plantation house. As all four boys go to investigate the house, a final twist of tragedy beckons that will change the lives of Nathan and Roy forever.

“Like Brokeback Mountain set in high school”

“Based on the acclaimed novel of the same name by Jim Grimsley, this page to screen adaptation brilliantly captures the close bond between two teenage boys who dare to fall in love with each other in a devout community, clearly not as open to the sexual spectrum of life, as other parts of America.”
