Fast-paced and fluidly edited, this feature documentary explores both the history of lesbian characters in the movies as well as the rise of queer female filmmakers. Dykes, Camera, Action! is a thoroughly entertaining film covering quite a lot of material in its brisk running time.
Lisa Cholodenko’s charming feature film debut High Art released in 1998, stars Radha Mitchell as Syd, a scrappy, lowly intern at a photography magazine, who is pulled into the hedonistic orbit of her intriguing neighbour Lucy, who happens to be a well-reputed photographer (played by Ally Sheedy). The 101-minute film grossed just under $2 million at the box office during the year of its release.
