Released in 1996 and directed by Hettie Macdonald, Beautiful Thing follows the coming-of-age of Jamie as he learns to escape the closet. The film won the Outstanding Film (Limited Release) at the 1997 GLAAD Media Awards and the Grand Prix award at the 1996 Paris Film Festival. Shot entirely in London, the film features actors Glen Berry and Scott Neal.
A former British actor, Glen Berry was born on April 21, 1978 in Romford, Essex. In 1993, Berry embraced the opportunity to attend the Anna Scher Theatre School in London. The community school, founded by Anna Scher, is best known for teaching improvisation and “natural delivery” techniques, of which the young Glen Berry benefited greatly.
Born in Great Britain, Hettie MacDonald is an accomplished director of film, television, and theater performances. She is well known for her direction of the Doctor Who episode titled Blink, which one the 2007 Hugo Award and is still today regarded as the finest episode of the modern revival of the Doctor Who series.
