“This is feel-good filmmaking, to be sure, but the culture clash here is more than a meaningless vehicle for fizzy wish fulfillment. The not-unpleasant result is hearty Italian fare with the half-life of Chinese takeout.”
   Entertainment Weekly

“No sophisticated dance, but it moves about with an open heart. And hey, it's at least as funny as that Greek thing.”
   Boston Globe

Reviews

  1. :

I lived in Saint Léonard, QC., in the municipality and neighbourhood in which the action takes place, at about the time that “Mambo Italiano” came out. There is so much that I recognise in the film! It really conveys the warm family milieu of Italian Montréal while showing how that and gay sexuality do not mesh easily. I also saw the play of the same title on which the film is based, both a French and English productions of it. There many divergences between each of the three; the play in any of its forms is very much worth seeing if one has the opportunity to do so.

  2. :

A great date movie, fun and fluffy and well worth a watch with a bowl of popcorn and your boyfriend. You could even throw your parents onto the couch with you – it’s as inoffensive as a new born baby!
